Inmate's death under investigation

GREEN COUNTY (WKOW) -- A death investigation is underway after a Green County inmate was discovered in unresponsive and not breathing in his cell.

Jail deputies found the lifeless man early Wednesday morning and began performing lifesaving measures.

Monroe EMS and First Response personnel were dispatched to the jail and responders were unable to revive the inmate.  He was pronounced dead at the jail by the Green County coroner.

The cause of the inmate's death has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.

Because the individual was an inmate of the Green County Jail, Monroe Police have been requested to complete an independent investigation of his death.

An autopsy has been scheduled.  His name, age and any details regarding his incarceration are being withheld, pending notification of relatives.  These details may likely be released Thursday morning.
