Eau Claire (WQOW) - Nearly four months after a fire that killed two UW-Eau Claire students we still don't know what caused it.

Ross Livermore and Jacob Clarkson died in the fire at their upstairs apartment on Water Street in October. Their two roommates escaped serious injury.

Eau Claire fire investigators remain positive they will determine the cause but aren't able to say how much longer that will take.

The owner of the building is asking the city for permission to construct a new office building with upstairs apartments at the same site. City staff is recommending approval. The planning commission will take a look at the proposal Monday night.
