WAUNAKEE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Samantha Murray reach a major milestone in Waunakee basketball history Friday night, becoming the first girls basketball player in school history to score 1,000 points in her varsity career.
The last time a boys basketball player scored that many at Waunakee was in 1961.
Murray entered the game against Monroe with 998 career points and thought she had reached the magic number with a lay-up early in the first quarter. However, she was called for a lane violation and had to settle for a pair of free throws - no pressure - to etch her name into the history books.
Murray scored 16 points against Monroe, giving her a grand total of 1,014 points. Waunakee beat Monroe 84-41.
