MADISON (WKOW) -- Drought conditions appear to be improving in southern Wisconsin after the winter precipitation the area has seen in recent months.

The U.S. Drought Monitor now lists roughly half of Dane County as being Abnormally Dry, the lowest level of drought recorded on the monitor.

The other half, primarily in southwest Dane County, is still listed in Moderate Drought, and some counties in far southern Wisconsin still have areas of Severe Drought.

The U.S. Drought Monitor for Wisconsin was last updated on January 29.
