Madison gas prices go up nearly 19 cents in past week

MADISON (WKOW) -- Gas prices have gone up in many areas of Wisconsin this week, including Madison.

The average retail price for a gallon has gone up nearly 19 cents in Madison in the past week, to about $3.49 per gallon on Sunday. That's according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 210 gas outlets in Madison. The national average has gone up too, but not by as much. It's risen 14.4 cents per gallon to $3.48.

Prices this week in Madison are about 14 cents higher than they were a year ago and 31 cents higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 21 cents in the last month and 4 cents in the last year.

"The national average has ticked higher in the last week, as rising oil prices have put upward pressure on gasoline prices," said Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "Unfortunately for angry motorists, there doesn't seem to be much relief in sight, at least for the time being, as retail prices continue to climb in virtually all areas of the country," DeHaan said.
