WAUPACA COUNTY (WAOW) - Waupaca County authorities say they have charged an Oklahoma man in the 1990 sexual assault of a woman in Iola.
The arrest came following the reopening of an investigation into the 1992 stabbing deaths of a Waupaca County couple at a farmhouse, Sheriff Brad Hardel and state Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said in a statement Monday. No charges have been filed in that case.
Glendon Gouker, 41, formerly of Wisconsin, was charged with first-degree sexual assault in the Nov. 5, 1990 attack of a 20-year-old woman at Taylor Field Park in Iola, according to court records. He was wearing a mask and told the woman, "I'm just doing my job; I got paid to do this," the criminal complaint said.
New DNA evidence linked Gouker to the crime, the complaint said.
Gouker, who is jailed in Oklahoma, is to make his first appearance in Waupaca County Circuit Court on Thursday, authorities said.
The break in the 1990 sexual assault came during the investigation of the March 22, 1992 killings of 23-year-old Tanna Togstad and 35-year-old Tim Mumbrue, Hardel said. Togstad, who was sexually assaulted, and Mumbrue were stabbed to death in Togstad's farmhouse, he said.
Gouker has been identified as a person of interest in killings, Hardel said.
"Investigators believe there are individuals still residing in the area with knowledge about this crime," the sheriff said.
