Eau Claire (WQOW)- A church could solve a space crunch within the Eau Claire school district. On Monday the school board voted on whether to move ahead with plans to purchase the building.
The price tag for Epiphany Lutheran Church, off of Truax Boulevard in Eau Claire, is $2.85 million.
On Monday night the Eau Claire school board unanimously adopted a resolution to move forward with the purchase of the church.
The district will borrow the money to purchase the future early learning site. Principal and interest payments will come out of the operating budget. The district has said there will be no tax increase. Epiphany will be used to house the 4-K program from the four district sites. Other early learning programs around the city will continue operating as is.
The school board hopes to make the full transition to Epiphany by fall.
The district expects the move to save around $150,000 a year in transportation and $20,000 in mileage reimbursement since teachers will no longer have to travel between the Eau Claire school sites.
Before moving ahead with purchase plans the district was required to give the public 30 days notice to petition for a referendum. No signatures were turned in.
