Eau Claire (WQOW) - The state department of health has a reminder about bats.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says last week a bat from northwest Wisconsin was diagnosed with rabies, which is uncommon this early in the year. WQOW News 18 checked in with the Eau Claire Health Department, which says some bats have been tested this year, but none tested positive.
"If there's a potential exposure, if someone is either bitten by a bat or scratched by a bat, we certainly encourage them to bring them in so that we can make sure they aren't rabies positive," says Lieske Giese with the Eau Claire City-County Health Department.
The health department says to call if you come into contact with a bat. It can answer questions you have. The number is 715-839-4718.
