PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- The Rock County Sheriff's Office says the lone suspect in Wednesday's shooting is in custody at UW Hospital and listed in critical condition. Officials have secured the scene and say there is no reason for residents to be fearful of their safety.
Sheriff Robert Spoden plans to hold a press conference on the incident Thursday at 9:00 a.m. to release more information.
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- The Rock County Sheriff's Office tells 27 News the suspect in a Wednesday morning shooting has been taken to a hospital with wounds the Sheriff described as severe.
Sheriff Robert Spoden says a SWAT team searched the property on the 6700 block of Stuart Road and found the body of a woman who apparently died of gunshot wounds in a barn.
Spoden says a man was found in another building on the property. He appeared to have severe injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Sheriff Spoden says the man is a suspect in the woman's death and that the two are believed to be acquainted, though he gave no details about their relationship. "It appears, from our initial investigation, that there was some sort of altercation," Spoden says.
Authorities have not yet released their names, but say the suspect is in his early 70's and the woman appears to be in her late 50's or early 60's
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- The Rock County Sheriff's Office confirms it has responded to a report of a shooting on Stuart Road in Plymouth Township.
Deputies are setting up a perimeter and the Rock County SWAT Team is also responding.
A Rock County sergeant tells 27 News that a helicopter is in route for a victim. Sheriff Robert Spoden will provide an update as soon as the scene is secure.
Citizens are being asked to avoid the Stuart Road area.
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- The Janesville Gazette is now reporting according to radio communications, a Special Weapons and Tactics trailer has arrived on the scene of the "active" situation in Plymouth Township.
The trailer was reported on the scene at 9:30 a.m.
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- Rock County deputies and other emergency crews are responding to a shooting in Plymouth Township.
According to the Janesville Gazette, crews began staging around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Stuart Road after it was reported a female has been shot and someone else may have been grazed by a shot.
Traffic in the area also is being held, according to the newspaper.
The Rock County Sheriff's Office will only tell 27 News they have an "active" situation going on.
