Layoffs part of plan by HTI to sell building space

Eau Claire (WQOW) - We're learning more about HTI and its future plans in Eau Claire.

Tuesday night, we reported that HTI wants to sell or lease part of its facility.  HTI makes computer parts.  The part of the facility used for assembly will be closed.  The work is being moved to Thailand.  The City of Eau Claire told us any jobs that would have been lost by that move have already been cut.

However, on Wednesday HTI told WQOW News 18 it plans to lay off around 150 employees in its assembly division by October.  The company says it's possible some of those employees could be reassigned to other positions.  HTI currently employs 745 people in Eau Claire.
