CHICAGO (WKOW) -- American Airlines and U.S. Airways are closing in on a deal to merge, creating the largest airline in the world.

An announcement is expected next week.

The merger means your air travel is likely to get even more expensive.

Analysts say mergers typically lead to higher prices because there's less competition.

Ticket prices have been steadily increasing since 2009.

The most recent data shows a nearly 20-percent hike in the average domestic fare over the past three years.
