Anti-gun violence vigil in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- Dozens of people in Madison came together Thursday to show their support for victims of gun violence.

A vigil was held at First Congregational United Church of Christ on University Avenue.

Organizers say they held the vigil as a show of solidarity for victims of deadly shootings in places like Newtown, CT and Oak Creek, WI, and to show their support for efforts to end such violence.

"When hearts break in those communities, they break in Madison, and they also break for the 40 people who died in Chicago last month. And so we need to use our best efforts to control the mechanisms of violence that are so prevalent in our society," says Rev. Jerry Hancock.

Organizers say they invited every elected official in Madison because they want their message to be heard.
