UPDATE: Woman killed in crash near Stoughton


TOWN OF DUNKIRK (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Department says a woman was killed and her daughter was hurt in a head-on crash Friday afternoon.

Officers say around 1:30 p.m. they were called to U.S. Highway 51 just west of Tower Drive in the township of Dunkirk.

Their investigation shows a westbound Toyota Camry crossed the centerline and ran head-on into a recycling truck.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say she's a 34-year-old woman from Janesville, but her name has not been released. Officer say the woman's 4-year-old daughter was in a car seat and sustained minor injuries. She was treated and released from Stoughton Hospital.

The driver of the recycling truck was not hurt.

USH 51 was closed for about four and a half hours while investigators were on scene.


STOUGHTON (WKOW) -- Authorities are diverting traffic on US 51 near Stoughton because of a crash.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Highway 51 at Tower Drive.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation calls it a serious crash.
