MADISON (WKOW)-- Wisconsin DNR is reaching out to the public for ideas on how to insure the healthy future of panfish in the state.
They're launching an extensive series of public hearings this week. The first hearing is set for Tuesday evening at Ben Franklin Junior High School in Stevens Point. It's the first of 28 hearings the DNR plans to hold.
The hearings will discuss panfish management and the strategies for insuring that a healthy population of panfish stays in Wisconsin waters.
Attendees will be asked to complete a questionnaire about their concerns, issues and priorities for managing the panfish. Experts from the DNR's fisheries will present information on local fish populations. The agency is hoping to use this gathered information to create a statewide management plan for panfish.
