Eau Claire (WQOW) - Fire crews were on scene well into the afternoon Monday when a large pile of hay bales caught fire near Lake Hallie.
The call came in around 8:30 this morning. According to the Chippewa Fire District, around 600 hay bales close to a barn caught fire. The district used its ladder hose, and they say conditions made fighting the fire difficult.
"Because of the location, it's easier to fight this fire from above than with hand lines from below. It gives us a broader pattern and a quicker fire suppression. The weather today with the brisk winds is fanning that fire, making it more difficult to fight," said John Andersen, a Deputy Chief with the Chippewa Fire District.
No one was injured and crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
