ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Shortly before 5:30 Wednesday morning, deputies from Rock County and Green County Sheriff's Offices, along with Evansville Police, Fire and EMS, and Brooklyn Fire responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on W State Highway 59 just east of State Highway 104.

Within minutes, units were on scene and found a car in the south ditch, approximately 15 feet off the roadway, with heavy front-end damage.  They also found another vehicle, a Chevy Malibu, resting on the passenger side in the middle of the roadway.

The male driver and one male passenger were trapped in the Malibu, and the driver of the other vehicle was also trapped.  Emergency crews immediately began extricating all three subjects and found the driver of the Malibu unresponsive.

Crews requested the UW-Hospital Med-Flight to respond for the injured parties and began life saving measures on the driver of the Malibu, which were unsuccessful.  That driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Med-Flight doctors.

The passenger of the Malibu was transported to UW-Hospital by Med-Flight with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  The other driver was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Initial investigation shows the Malibu was traveling westbound on W STH 59 approaching a large sweeping curve in the road near N STH 104 when it entered the north shoulder of the curve.  The driver tried to correct, after entering the shoulder, and the vehicle began to spin. The vehicle, still spinning, entered into the eastbound lane of traffic.  The other vehicle was eastbound and collided with the front passenger side of the Malibu.  This caused the Malibu to overturn and come to rest on its passenger side.

The driver of the Malibu was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and speed is believed to be a contributing factor.
