MADISON (Press Release) - Representative Dana Wachs
(D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement regarding Governor Walker's
announcement that he will not accept federal funds that would fully fund
BadgerCare:
"I'm extremely disappointed that the
Governor has chosen extreme partisan politics over the needs of hard-working
Wisconsin families. Accepting the federal funding available to Wisconsin
under the Affordable Care Act would not only have given these families the
healthcare coverage that they need and deserve, but it would have also saved
millions of dollars in uncompensated care costs for Wisconsin taxpayers as well
as created thousands of jobs. Unfortunately, the Governor chose to
ignore the needs of Wisconsin citizens. This should be a bipartisan
issue, and I urge my Republican legislative colleagues to do the right thing
and pass the Strengthen BadgerCare bill, which was recently introduced and of
which I am proud to be a co-sponsor. We can still do the right thing, and
the time is now."
