Eau Claire (WQOW)- A local lawmaker wants to give politicians a cooling off period before getting back into the political arena.
State Representative Dana Wachs is co-authoring a bill that would prohibit lawmakers in Wisconsin from becoming business lobbyists within two years of leaving office.
"What we are concerned about is undue influence by people who had just left the assembly from suddenly becoming a lobbyist and going back and talking to people who were colleagues and peers just a couple of months before," says Wachs. "Now they are coming in with a specific agenda on behalf of various entities outside of the government."
According to Wachs, seven other states have laws in place similar to this proposal. The bill has not been introduced yet.
