Dunn County (WQOW) - At least 30 alpacas were killed in a
shed fire that happened late Saturday night in the Town of Tainter.
The Menomonie Fire Department says
they, along with five other departments, were called to the fire just before
midnight. They say a pole shed barn with
more than one hundred alpacas was fully engulfed. There were no people injured. Firefighters battled the
flames until about five Sunday morning. They say the hay in the barn made it
difficult to put out.
The
Menomonie Fire Department told WQOW News 18 the upper level of the shed was
being renovated as a living space. The American Red Cross is assisting the two
people who were living there. The building is a total loss, the cause of the
fire is still under investigation.
