Eau Claire (WQOW) - A former area coach is accused of having a sexual relationship with one of his teenaged athletes.

Scott Bergman was an assistant track coach at Thorp High School. Bergman, 43, is accused of having sex with a 17-year-old student.

Bergman allegedly provided the girl with alcohol and had nude and partially nude pictures of her on his cell phone. Police say Bergman expressed his love for the girl in text messages. When questioned about it they say he told them he sends messages all the time and that he loves the girls on his track team.

Police also say the girl's diary described sexual encounters with Bergman. The diary and text messages also indicated they were discussing marriage so Bergman would not have to go to jail.

In December the Thorp School District notified Bergman his coaching contract would not be renewed. He was also banned from the school grounds and school events.

Bergman is charged with one count of sexual assault of a student by school staff and 2 counts of sexual intercourse with a child. He will be in court on Thursday.
