DNR wants your opinion on panfish

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The DNR needs your help to draft its next Panfish Management Plan.

The agency wants feedback from anglers; including, bag limits, which are currently capped at 25 fish statewide, size of panfish and lakes where fishing is either poor or excellent.

There are several steps the DNR must take before a management plan can be drafted into law.

Biologists say the public hearings and surveys are the framework for solid data on panfish regulations.

"So it's a very sequential process to go through, but we're kind of in stage two right now and just trying to get everybody's input statewide and then after that we'll move down the road to those other stages," says DNR Senior Fisheries Biologist Heath Benike.

Future stages include more public meetings after the data is collected and then potentially placing any rule changes into law by the 2016 fishing season.

Tuesday night's meeting is at 7 p.m. at the DNR's Eau Claire office and if you can't make it, you can also take the survey online here.
