MADISON (WKOW) -- The Joint Legislative Audit Committee approved an audit of foster care agencies and the state's monitoring of them, in the wake of disclosures a Middleton foster care agency inappropriately charged the state for a Lexus, boats and other improper expenses.
Audit committee co-chairperson Rep. Samantha Kerkman (R-Town of Randall) said Community Care Resources' improper use of more than $6 million raises the specter such fraud could be going on elsewhere in the foster care system.
The expenditures by the firm's president and his wife, an employee, were uncovered through a review over several years by officials of the department of children and families. CCR's license was revoked last month. The company has appealed the revocation and a company spokesperson has denied wrongdoing.
