ELKHORN (WKOW) -- The Walworth County Sheriff's Office on Thursday identified the deputy who fired the shots in a January officer-involved shooting.
A news release says it was Deputy Richard Lagle, who has been with the Walworth County Sheriff's Office since 2009.
The Sheriff's Office says Lagle shot and killed Alfredo Emelio Villarreal, 18, an inmate who Deputy Lagle was guarding at Lakeland Medical Center in the town of Geneva.
Villarreal, of Janesville, was undergoing tests and observation for a personal medical problem.
The Sheriff's office says Villarreal attacked Deputy Lagle, punching and kicking him, in an attempt to escape.
A news release about the incident claims Deputy Lagle used his taser, which failed to stop Villarreal, before shooting the inmate.
The Walwroth County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the shooting.
