MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are looking for a gunman that fired shots that nearly hit a sleeping 9-year-old child.
Police say multiple officers responded to the 4300 block of Melody Lane around 11:07 p.m. Wednesday after several citizen reports of gunfire.
One bullet went through an apartment window across the street in the 2300 block of Independence Lane. Police say the bullet was lodged into a wall in the apartment, where a child lay sleeping on the other side.
A resident told police there had been a drug debt dispute prior to the fired shots. Police say it appears the the apartment that was struck had nothing to do with the violence.
No injuries were reported.
Witnesses told police the gunman was outside and may have fled in a van. The suspect is described as a black male with an average build and about six-foot tall. He was last seen wearing a stocking cap.
