ASHLAND COUNTY (WKOW) -- The bodies of two men have been located after a snowmobile plunged into Lake Superior near Madeline Island Wednesday night.
The men were last seen leaving Bayfield heading to Madeline Island around 9:30 p.m. A call to 911 was placed Thursday morning, reporting the two missing.
Rescue teams found the body of one man next to a partially submerged snowmobile in the water shortly after the 911 call was received. The second man's body was found about three hours later.
Ashland County Sheriff Mick Brennan said the victims are both in their 30s and lived on Madeline Island. Their names are being withheld at this time, pending notification of family. Brennan said both men had been on the same snowmobile.
