Plow crews spend overnight clearing roads

MADISON (WKOW) -- Snow plow crews have spent the entire morning clearing and salting roads.

Snow started falling in the Madison area around 10:30 p.m. Thursday and the heaviest band was during the overnight hours. The Madison Streets Department initially had 30 trucks out, then added another 30 around 5:00 a.m. They are still working on the main roads and plan to start clearing residential streets once Madison has three inches of snow. Totals are just shy of that as of 7:00 a.m.

The Dane County Highway Department also got out on the roads as soon as the snow began falling. They focused on the interstates and county roads.

Dane County Communications is reporting about two-dozen minor accidents, mostly slide-offs, but says there are no injuries to report. Officials do advise motorists to slow down Friday morning.
