MADISON (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development(DWD) announced on Friday it has sent news jobs data to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics(BLS), compiled from unemployment records reported by almost 96 percent of Wisconsin businesses.
The data is for the third quarter of 2012, which covers July, August and September.
The numbers appear to present Wisconsin with mixed news. They show the state added 20,481 private-sector jobs from September 2011 through September 2012, much better than the loss of 2,100 private-sector jobs over the same time frame estimated through monthly surveys of about 3.5% of Wisconsin employers.
However, those 20,481 jobs added represent 0.9% private-sector job growth in Wisconsin over that September to September time period. And when more than 2,700 job losses in the public sector are included, the state's total rate of job growth is 0.7%.
The quarterly jobs data also show a decline in total wages from the third quarter of 2011, with a drop of 1.2% in the private sector and 6.2% in government jobs.
The BLS will review and incorporate the data in its next Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages
