Town of Wheaton (WQOW) - More than two dozen calves escaped a barn fire Friday morning.
It happened north of Eau Claire in the Town of Wheaton. Chippewa Fire District says the fire broke out around 7 a.m. at Sandy Acres Dairy. The snowy roads slowed volunteer firefighters on their way to the station, and then to the fire. But they extinguished the blaze with damage estimated at $15,000.
It's believed a heat lamp being used to warm the calves ignited some wood chips. The fire then spread to a wall and the roof of the barn.
