Stanley (Press Release) - Officers from the Stanley, Thorp and Cadott Police Departments, and the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office responded to a residence on Second Avenue in the City of Stanley for a report of a domestic incident between a boyfriend and girlfriend. Officers were advised a gun was discharged in the residence. The female victim of the domestic incident had escaped the residence with the firearm, however, additional firearms were inside the residence. Numerous phone conversations with the subject, Joshua R. Walters, inside the residence failed to gain his cooperation in exiting the residence and surrendering peacefully.
The female victim was transported to Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley for injuries sustained during the initial domestic incident. The injuries she sustained were not from gunshots. She was treated and released the same day.
The Chippewa County Combined Response Team (CRT) and the Eau Claire County Combined SWAT Team were requested to assist in apprehending Walters. Officers apprehended Walters at approximately 7:40 PM. The officers and Walters were not injured in the incident.
At this time, Walters is being held on a cash bond in the Chippewa County Jail. Official charges are still pending. Walters is scheduled to appear for his Initial Appearance next week. An official charge decision from the Chippewa County District Attorney's Office will be forthcoming prior to the Initial Appearance and additional details will be released at that time.
