MADISON (WKOW) -- International Polar Bear Day is Wednesday, but Madison's Henry Vilas Zoo celebrated four days early.

The zoo welcomed around 400 people on this sunny, but cool February Saturday for polar bear-related activities and demonstrations.

Most of the kids just wanted to see the polar bear, but zoo officials also wanted to deliver a message.

"What we want to do is we want to create awareness about polar bears," said Erin Flynn, the zoo's education curator. "And they are threatened in the wild, and the reason they're threatened is loss of their ice habitat home."
