MADISON (WKOW) -- The latest numbers from the state show snowmobile deaths are up 50% in Wisconsin this season.
Wisconsin's Department of Natural Resources(DNR) reports 15 deaths this season, compared to 10 last season.
Wisconsin has 25-thousand miles of groomed trails, and state officials say an average of 220-thousand snowmobiles register in the state each year.
"A lot of people want to ask me where is the focus at," said Jeremy Cords, a recreation Safety Warden with the DNR. "We want to focus on education and then enforcement."
Natural resource officials say on average, over the past five years, 60%-65%of snowmobile deaths in Wisconsin involve alcohol.
