Eau Claire (WQOW) - People were busy making waves for a good cause Sunday afternoon in Eau Claire.
The 14th annual Polar Plunge was held at Half Moon Lake, where nearly a thousand people jumped into icy waters. Proceeds from the event benefit Special Olympics programs. It's the organization's biggest local fundraising event.
"The plunge is huge for us. If we didn't have this Polar Plunge, the athletes here locally would not be able to participate in sports. We just wouldn't have the resources to do that. So the people who are jumping in the water know that they're money is benefiting on of the athletes here today," said Karen Kraus, Special Olympics Director of Development.
More than $190,000 was raised for Special Olympics today. WQOW News 18 had a couple of jumpers participate in the fundraiser.
