Red Wing mayor resigns over frac sand job

Red Wing, Minnesota (WQOW/AP) - A controversial job at a frac sand company leads a Minnesota mayor to resign.

The star tribune reports that red wing mayor Dennis Egan said that legally, he could have continued to be mayor while he also worked as executive director of the Minnesota industrial sand council.  But Egan says he will resign as mayor because his second job had become a distraction. There was pressure from the public, and the city council had planned on investigating. Red wing is among the many communities divided over the pros and cons of mining frac sand.
