Eau Claire (WQOW) - A new fundraising effort that would
benefit Eau Claire's
waterways will be discussed at Monday night's city council meeting.
The Eau Claire
Public Spirit Fund is a way for the city to encourage community members to make
donations toward specific city projects.
For example, a handicapped accessible fishing dock near Lakeshore Elementary
or improvements to local parks. To encourage giving, the donations would be tax
deductible.
"We're starting with the
Waterways Plan, with smaller projects that can be completed, that are concrete,
that are doable, that create excitement. As the Spirit Fund grows, projects
will incorporate maybe other public infrastructure that people are interested
in," said Kerry Kincaid, Eau Claire City Council President.
The city council will discuss the
idea tonight, and could vote on the project tomorrow. If it's approved, the
city says it will kick off the fundraising effort with a $500 donation.
