Investigation shows WI-based company may target seniors

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- An investigation shows senior citizens across the country may be the victims of a business based in Wisconsin.

WISN 12 News in Milwaukee investigated "AFD Medical Advisors" which claims to help patients get prescriptions at a discount or free. But the Better Business Bureau says it's been getting about 60 calls a month since mid-November about the company, saying AFD called elderly people and told them things like, they needed to make a payment or their "Medicare would be canceled the next day."

The complaints say AFD would withdraw $299 from a patient's bank account, but they never got anything in return.

Vickie Thompson says her mother got a call from AFD. "I think it's horrible. I think the company that's running this is just voracious, they need to be put under the jail somewhere."

The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions lists Aaron F. Dupont as AFD's registered agent. His home is in the Wausau area and the business's address was tracked to a P.O. Box at a UPS store in Stevens Point. When WISN contacted Dupont at his home, he said he didn't know about any complaints about his company to the BBB. The BBB says it has contacted him with concerns he's preying on the elderly.

The BBB, Wisconsin's Office of Consumer Protection and a couple police agencies are now investigating AFD.
