JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Among thousands of well wishes sent from around the world to Newtown, Connecticut is one from Wisconsin.

It was sent by 9-year-old Ariana Pensy of Janesville. Ariana's mom Lara Bush-Pensy says they came across an Act of Kindness contest about a month ago. It was set up in honor of 6-year-old Sandy Hook Elementary shooting victim Charlotte Bacon. Ariana submitted a story about a girl she befriended at school.

"I became her friend after all the kids were leaving her out, not playing with her, not having lunch with her," Ariana told WKOW. The message caught on.

"People were so taken with it, some people copied it and hung it up on their office wall and it started to circulate," Bush-Pensy said about her daughter's submission.

Ariana won the contest and was asked to attend a ceremony in Newtown. "They received hundreds and hundreds of submissions from all over the country and different parts of the world, and they decided to highlight eight children and Ariana was one of them," Bush-Pensy said.

They brought along a kindness bucket filled with notes from Ariana's third grade class. The idea of a "Kindness Bucket" came from a book their teacher read in class.

"Both Ariana and I felt really, really honored that they would invite us to come," Bush-Pensy says. She also says J.J. Watt heard about the Act of Kindness and is taken them out to dinner this week.
