Man throws beer bottle at worker; arrested for OWI

MADISON (WKOW) -- A 44-year-old woman working at a downtown restaurant narrowly missed being struck by a flying beer bottle.

The employee stated she had looked up and saw a man appear in the doorway of the Los Gemelos restaurant around 9:30 Monday night.

The man said nothing, just threw his beer bottle, which shattered after striking the counter and wall.  Two customers were standing nearby and shards of glass flew into a 22-year-old woman's hair.  The man next to her was picking glass out of his jacket when police arrived.

Officers were told the thrown bottle was not empty and beer had also splashed on the 27-year-old man.

The woman working the counter stated she knew of no reason for the attack and thought it may be random.

Witnesses provided police with a description of the suspect and his car, as well as his license plate number.

The black Volkswagen Jetta was pulled over around 11:15 p.m. in the 100 block of W. Gilman St.  21-year-old Francisco Martinez, of Madison, was intoxicated and made conflicting statements.  Several empty beer bottles were found inside his car, the same brand as the bottle thrown inside the restaurant.

Martinez was arrested for 2nd degree reckless endangering safety.  He was also cited for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and operating after suspension.
