MADISON (WKOW) -- A 38-year-old Madison man, driving around downtown early Sunday morning noticed vehicle looking very similar to the one he owns, even the same tree-style air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror.
The man pulled up next to the BMW X5 and saw two men in the front seat and two women in the back. He said the music was so loud, he could feel the thumping of the base.
That's when he noticed the license plate. He was looking at his car, which was supposed to be in the shop.
He says he dropped his car off at an auto shop on Stoughton Road the previous Monday, and when he drove to the location, his car was gone. Staff told police the vehicle was there at the close of business Saturday and must have been stolen hours before the owner spotted it.
