MADISON (WKOW) -- Tuesday afternoon, two Madison women were attempting to flee Boston Store in West Towne Mall when a loss prevention officer stopped them.
One of the women pushed and threw a punch at the face of the officer.
Numerous shoppers directed responding police officers to an area inside the mall where the 28-year-old victim was trying to keep the women from fleeing.
According to the loss prevention officer, the women entered Boston Store, grabbed an empty bag from behind a checkout area, and proceeded to fill it with hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise. The suspects also grabbed expensive power toothbrushes and tried to return them for cash or store credit.
The victim, who was already wise to their activity, blocked the transaction and tried to stop them after the left the store with the stolen items.
One suspect, 37-year-old Tara Hatter, pushed him and took a swing at him. He was not hurt. The security officer says the store will ban Hatter and 38-year-old Aneaka Mobley, for life.
The women were arrested for retail theft, and Hatter was also booked into jail on a tentative charge of disorderly conduct and a probation hold.
