WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Congressman Mark Pocan gave his first speech to the House of Representatives today, urging Legislators to work out a deal on the so-called sequester.
Pocan spoke on the need for discretion when making budget cuts, comparing the sequester to using a meat cleaver instead of a scalpel. He also highlighted the impact of government programs. Pocan told the Representatives, "these programs make a difference in people's lives. It's a lot of work and it should be. Because our budget priorities have a direct affect on the middle-class families and long-term economic growth."
The sequester will take effect on Friday, triggering $85 billion in across-the-board federal spending cuts.
