Eau Claire (WQOW) -- This weekend, the top gymnasts in the state descend on Wisconsin Rapids. For the Eau Claire co-op team, it will be their 9th trip to the state tournament.
Eau Claire has only missed out on a trip to state since it became a co-op, and hopes that state experience will translate into its first top-three finish in program history.
"We just need to go down there and have a good day and not worry about what the other teams are doing because we can't control how they do and we can't control our scores. We can control how we do our routines and we need to hit our routines," says senior Olivia Vuylsteke.
Head coach Michelle Johnson says the teams depth gives Eau Claire an advantage: "I think it's just about consistency this weekend. We have a great team that has a lot of depth. A lot of teams have one or two great girls and then it falls off. We have a lot of great girls with a lot of talent. They know if one mistake is made, it's okay because they have teammates that will pick it up for them. So I think if we can put it all together, we have a chance."
"We work really well as a group. We know each other's strengths and weaknesses and we know what we have to do to work together as a team," says senior Kendra Morgan.
