Eau Claire (WQOW) - An area convenience store chain is bilked out of nearly $10,000 in merchandise and now three people face felony charges.
The charges were filed this week against William
McEachin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Gwendolyn Herbert and
Celesta Peppers, both of Chicago. They're accused of using counterfeit Discover gift cards to buy hundreds of cartons of cigarettes at Mega-Holiday stores in the Eau Claire area.
Company officials told police that over the past month the suspects would stop in the early morning hours and buy $300 to $700 worth of cigarettes at a time. The losses total $9,600. The three are also suspected of similar crimes in Chippewa Falls and Black River Falls.
