MADISON (WKOW) -- The Verona boys hockey team advanced to the WIAA state semifinals with its 6-3 victory over Wausau West on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats were led by senior Nolan Kepler, who tallied a hat-trick in the game. Verona had a 3-1 lead heading into the final period, but Wausau West scored two goals in 26 seconds to tie it at 3. Verona answered scoring the next three goals, advancing to the next round.
The Wildcats will face G.B. Notre Dame on Friday at 6 pm at the Coliseum. N.D. beat Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln 7-0 in the quarterfinals to move onto the semis. Notre Dame and Verona met once this season on January 18, with N.D. winning that game 7-0.
