27 Kids Who Matter- Matt and Maurice

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- They're the best of friends and they have Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County to thank for it.

In our continuing 27 Kids Who Matter Campaign, we meet a big and little brother team who are as committed to the program as they are to each other.

Matt Flynn and Maurice Humboldt say they're a perfect match when it comes to being each other's big and little brother.

Little brother Maurice says, "I've known him for four years, he's like definitely one of my best friends, definitely."

"We've been together for four-and-a-half years and plan on being together as long as we can," says his big brother Matt.

The two get together for a variety of activities at least three times a month.

"I like to play golf, video games, sometimes we go to Elver Park and we'll play soccer, football, we'll sled," says Maurice.

While they always have fun, Matt says he tries to impart some life lessons to Maurice as well.

"Do what you have to do to stay in school, do well. I think it's important to keep him on the right track, which he is.  He's on the right track now and it's important to keep him on that track.

To prove how much Maurice means to him, Matt actually put him in his wedding party last summer.

"You want to have somebody in your wedding that's a relatively close friend. Well him and I have been very close for a long time and so we wanted to have him stand up and put him in a tux and he looked pretty good."

Maurice says, "His family and him treat me like I'm really their blood, I guess. So, he's like my real brother."

Because they want others to find a bond like the one they share, Matt and Maurice recently took part in Cuts for Kids.

They got their heads shaved to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.

"Him and I have done it for four years together, and, it's important that we give back to Big Brothers Big Sisters because they provide a lot of support for us and all the other matches that are out there in the community," says Matt.

The two say they hope to stay brothers for as long as they're both alive.
