Verona boys advance to state hockey title with 5-2 upset over Notre Dame

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Verona boys hockey team advanced to the WIAA state hockey championship with its 5-2 upset win over G.B. Notre Dame on Friday night. The Wildcats will play in the title game for the first time in school history.

Notre Dame tied the game at two in the second period, but Verona scored the next three goals, one in the second and two in the third to win. What makes the result such a surprise is the fact that Notre Dame beat Verona 7-0 in a regular season game played on January 18.

Verona will face Eau Claire Memorial in the championship game Saturday at 2:15 pm at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Madison.
