MADISON, WI (WKOW) -- The Hayward Hurricanes won the girls' state hockey championship Saturday for the first time in school history.
Hayward faced off against Onalaska at noon Saturday.
Meredith Ingebretson had a hat-trick, extending the Hayward lead to 4-0 in the second period.
Onalaska's Theresa Knutson scored on successive goals, but they were answered in the third period by Hayward's Annika Neerdaels.
The Hurricanes won 5-2 over Onalaska. This is Hayward's third trip to state and first title win.
