WI assembly gears up for mining bill fight

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- Assembly Republicans are preparing for what promises to be the last, brutal debate on their divisive mining bill this week.

Republican leaders plan to start the debate on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. They want to confine as much of the proceedings as possible to daylight hours.

If the bill is approved, it would then go to Governor Scott Walker's desk for his signature.

The mining bill was debated nearly nine hours in the state Senate last week.

Two years ago minority Democrats used a 61-hour filibuster to delay the body's vote on Governor Walker's collective bargaining changes. They despise the mining bill, too, which almost certainly will translate to a long day.
