MENOMINEE (WKOW) -- The second body missing after a semi slid off the interstate Tuesday morning has been recovered.

The two Minnesota men killed after their semi plunged into a the Red Cedar river are remembered as best friends.

Authorities identified the friends as Mohammed Malin and Batrodin Siyad, both from Minneapolis.

Siyad's brother, Abdul Siyad, says the two victims were "connected so long" that they were like family.  Ayan Gutale says the two would often stop by her office at Soma Travel, Immigration and Tax Service to collect their mail.  Gutale says the two were so close she rarely saw one without the other.  She describes the 26-year-old Malin as a jokester and the 25-year-old Siyad as always happy.

According to the Star Tribune, services for Siyad were held Wednesday.  The funeral for Malin will be held Thursday.


MENOMONIE (WKOW) -- One body has been recovered from the river after a semi slid off the interstate and into the water early Tuesday morning.

Crews have been on the scene since just after 4:00 a.m. when they got a call a semi slid off I-94 and became submerged in the Red Cedar River. Two people were in the semi. One body has been recovered. Divers are still looking for the other person.

Crews have also recovered the semi tractor trailer.

WQOW-TV is reporting the truck was based out of Lansing, Michigan. No names are being released at this time, nor is the name of the company.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says dive teams are searching the Red Cedar River for the driver and another person in the semi. The semi is still submerged in the water.


MENOMONIE (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin State Patrol is still on the scene of an accident where a semi truck ran off the road and into the Red Cedar River. The semi is still submerged in the water.

Emergency crews got the call around 4:00 a.m. saying the semi going west on I-94 lost control on snow covered roads and went into the river. Law enforcement, dive teams and tow trucks are on the scene trying to find the driver. The semi is from Michigan.

Eastbound I-94 is closed at Wisconsin 25. The State Patrol says drivers are being directed through Menomonie and back onto the interstate from Wisconsin 12 and County Road B.


MENOMONIE (WKOW) – The State Patrol says a semi slid off a snow-covered interstate and landed in the river in western Wisconsin.

Patrol Sgt. Dave Fish says a dive-and-rescue team has been called to the Red Cedar River near Menomonie to search for the semi driver.  There's no immediate word on the driver's condition.

Troopers closed all eastbound lanes of I-94 at Highway 25 due to the accident.
