UPDATE: Officers dragged, shots fired after attempted arrest

Eau Claire Police Department (Press Release) - On March 5, 2013 at approximately 9:45 p.m. an Eau Claire Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3600 block of N. Hastings Way. Shortly after the initial stop, a second Eau Claire Police Officer arrived at this location to assist. When the officers attempted to place the driver under arrest, the driver became combative.

The officers were partially leaning into the driver's side of the vehicle, attempting to remove the driver, when the driver put his vehicle into gear and accelerated onto the highway dragging both officers. One officer was able to free himself from the vehicle at which time he discharged his handgun. The second officer was also able to free himself from the vehicle. A pursuit then began that continued into the Village of Lake Hallie.

The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed his vehicle on the 1800 block of S. Prairie View Rd. The suspect was taken into custody near this crash scene. Neither the officers nor the suspect were injured during the incident.

The Eau Claire Police Department has asked The Wisconsin Department of Justice - Division of Criminal Investigation to investigate this incident.

The driver has verbally identified himself as Scott Allen Belisle, M/W, d.o.b. 10-08-1961 from Two Harbors, MN. Belisle has been arrested for OMVWI (11th Offense), Resisting Arrest, Knowingly Fleeing an Officer, and Recklessly Endangering Safety.

Additional details of the incident and the names of the two officers involved will not be released until this investigation is complete.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Two officers were dragged behind a vehicle after attempting to arrest the driver.

Tuesday night around 9:45 p.m. an Eau Claire Police Officer pulled over a vehicle on the 3600 block of North Hastings Way in Eau Claire. Another officer soon arrived to assist.

When the officers were leaning inside the vehicle attempting to arrest the suspect he put the vehicle in gear and accelerated back onto the road.

Both officers were dragged but able to free themselves. While being dragged one of the officers fired his gun.

A pursuit then ensued and went into the Village of Lake Hallie. It ended when the suspect, 52 year old Scott Allen Belisle of Two Harbors, MN crashed on the 1800 block of South Prairie View Road.

No serious injuries were reported. Belisle was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated 11th offense, resisting arrest, knowingly fleeing an officer, and recklessly endangering safety.

More details, including the officer's names, are expected once the investigation is complete.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Police confirm a suspect is in custody after an incident in Eau Claire. Police would not elaborate on what led to the arrest. More information is expected to be released within the next few hours.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A suspect has been found after incident with police in Eau Claire.

The incident is still under investigation but a local firefighter told WQOW News 18 they were called out for a report of a crash with a man who may be trapped underneath the vehicle. The firefighter said there was also a report that shots may have been fired.

An area business owner told us that authorities confirmed to him that shots were fired and the suspect was located hiding in a snowbank near South Prairie View Road in Eau Claire.

Again this incident is still under investigation.

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Police have shut down part of Hastings Way near Eddy Lane as they search for a suspect.

A local firefighter told WQOW News 18 they were called out for a report of a crash with a man who may be trapped underneath the vehicle.  The firefighter said there was also a report that shots may have been fired.  No one was found under the vehicle so officers are now searching the area.

WQOW News 18 will post updates as we learn more.
