UW regents discuss proposed new 2-year budget

MADISON (WKOW) – The University of Wisconsin System board of regents is meeting to discuss the governor's proposed two-year budget.

The newly proposed budget by Gov. Scott Walker includes $181 million in new taxpayer investments in the UW System.

The regents will be meeting on Thursday in Madison.  The meeting will be streamed live online.

One of the key agenda items is a discussion on Gov. Walker's proposed 2013-15 budget.  The budget allocation includes about $90 million to help keep the UW System affordable for students, and more than $40 million for previously construction projects.

At the meeting, regents will also hear updates about a faulty payroll and benefits system that resulted in $33 million in overpayments for insurance premiums and pension contributions.

No votes or actionable items are on the agenda for the meeting.
